This post is kinda weird (yet educating, ha!). I found this when i'm searching some literature for source of my paper about happiness. The book's table of contents kinda interesting and i see a chapter about Love and Marriage. Well, i dunno whether i was an 'essentialist' or just my age *sigh*, i am interested with this two paragraph.
The Canadian sociologist J.A. Lee claimed that different couples have different styles of loving. There are three primary love styles, which he termed Eros, Storge and Ludus. The Erotic style of love is based on immediate physical attraction, a fascination with beauty, sensuality, and good rapport between the two individuals involved. In contrast, Storge is a rather unexciting and undramatic love style. It involves affection and companionship, but it relatively devoid of passion. The third primary love style, Ludus, derives its name from the Latin word for “play”. As that implies, Ludic lovers are hedonistic and unwilling to enter into long-term commitments.J. A. Lee did not stop at the three primary love styles just described. He went on to identify three additional love styles that represent blends of the primary love styles. Eros and Storge in combination produce Agape, which is dutiful and altruistic form of love in which the lover expects little in return. Storge and Ludus together make Pragma, which is love style for the realistic and practical lover who actively seeks for a compatible partner. Finally, and most excitingly, there is Mania, which combines elements of Ludus and Eros. This love style is characterized by great emotional intensity in the form of obsession and jealousy.
